This is going to be a challenge for me because I am not riding long distances as I have in the past. There are 3 Starbucks within a short distance; 5 if I include Barnes & Noble and Target. I wish I liked coffee because that would be doable. But very few places make a good tea or hot cocoa.
I put on my new tire and tube on my new wheel. It is nice to be able to pedal without the added friction of a too tall tire hitting the frame.
I rode up Mansfield to WRB to SR54. WRB is not open yet but the road is paved and striped. And I did see two cars drive on the road, passed the road closed barricades.
I realized when I got here that I had forgotten my masks. I still wear them but t it has months since I went anywhere on my bike.

I learned the other day that the cardboard wrap is called a zarf. I have used that word in scrabble without knowing what it means.
It is an old Turkish word: An ornamental container designed to hold a coffee cup and insulate it from the hand of the drinker. (wiktionary.org)
The first time I used one was in Poland. It was cold and we went into a cafe for coffee. I only drank hot cocoa which they didn't have. I got hot tea and it was served in a glass inside a metal zarf. I had to add a lot of sugar and learned to like it.
The steamer was OK. I will be glad when hot cocoa season starts in November.

It took me 90 minutes to get to Starbucks in Zephyrhills. (15.84 miles) There is construction along US301 and the little should that it there is gone for a future turn lane. It was not fun. 
Vanilla Crème but with Irish Cream instead of vanilla. 
The drink was OK but a little less creamy than I would have liked. 
The ride back was fast. The tailwind was great. I rode SR54 to MPB. There is a narrow shoulder during construction.

Windy. Not as bad as yesterday but it is still too much. Decided to ride a shorter route today. (I have extra days off coming up and will ride more then.)
I went to BBD to SR54. I know why I don't like riding up this way on the MUP, drivers pulling up to BBD do no look my way and block the path. 
Starbucks for Vanilla Crème with Sugar Cookie Syrup and Holiday Sprinkles. 
Took the lid off and could smell the sugar cookie. But the whip was all melted so they didn't add the extra I requested. 
Yes it tastes like a sugar cookie. But I miss the crunch of the cookie. 
I rode SR54 to FoxWood to Chancey to MPB. I wanted to avoid MPB as much as possible. North of SR56, it is busy and in need of replacing. I rode along the MUP but found it was even worse!
Around mile 16, my legs were done. I was glad I didn't do another long route.

Rode Mansfield to Chancey to BBD. I rode SR54 to Land o Lakes Starbucks. Last year it was very slow. Today it was ready extra fast despite the line of cars waiting to place their orders.

The ride home was good but I was chilled. Wool is supposed to wick moisture but my arm get sweaty and then cold when the wind blows. 
Only one asshole pulled out and stopped in the bike lane. I was in the top gear then my chain got stuck. I managed to get it loose with my foot while coasting. But then I couldn't get into the top gear again. WTH. Though I didn't need it except for going down the overpass.

I am not sure why I am so slow. I just don’t have the drive to pedal any harder. I took the 1220 in for a tuneup on Tuesday. They called on Wednesday telling me I need new front gears and they have to ordered. I rode my 820 and was even slower. Then the weather changed, wind and cool weather that made me very slow. Definitely a slow spoke.

This was a pretty good week despite having to ride my road bike and battle the wind and cold. I didn’t ride Wednesday morning but did ride after work. I prefer the quieter mornings but I have become a baby with the cold. Twenty years in Florida really thins out the blood. 

I  got a new floor pump on Saturday and it made a huge difference in my ride on Sunday. I didn’t realize how badly my older pump was for pumping up my thinner tires. 

I was also happy to hit 5,001 miles on Sunday.

Trouble with my floor pump. It wouldn't hold tight while I was pumping my tires. It is old and might need to be replaced. 
Windy. Rode SR56 to US301 and back to BBD to Starbucks. 
Noticed a few bumps felt like they hit the rim. Need more air? Then I notice less control and the front looked low. I stopped to pump up my tire. I had to remember how to switch it to Presta. My pump is OK. Never gets the tire full. 
Damn. I didn't even last a week on my road bike before I got my first flat tire. 
A mile from Starbucks. The tire got low again. I walked it through the shopping plaza to Starbucks. 
Peppermint hot cocoa. It was good but I didn't enjoy it as much because ai had to change my tire. I hate changing tires. I am

I walked to the gas station to look at getting more air. I have an adapter for presta to Schraeder but it wouldn't go on. I decided to skip it and ride home. The tire held for the 4 miles.

I used my new pump and pumped up my tires. Man, it was easy. I forgot how fast I could go with properly inflated tires. I have needed a new pumps for years but didn't know. Oops. 
Decided to stay closer to home in case of another flat. Rode two loops then to Starbucks for my last hot cocoa. (I stupidly ordered at the wrong store. Waste of $4.)
My stomach hurts.

I had to change the battery in my HRM.

The barriers blocking the MUP were gone. However, construction is still going on and I had to move to the bike lane when the path disappeared. Did the barriers blow away by the Tropical Storm?

They were sold out of Peppermint Hot Cocoa. I got Salted Caramel. It was OK but not caramel. 
The ride home was windy with my chain slipping.

Wind back to normal levels. 
My 820 needs a new chain. I called Oliver's yesterday but they couldn't guarantee it would be fixed yesterday. I thought about riding it anyway. Then I remembered what an awful ride I had last year with the chain skipping at almost every stroke. So I took down my 1220, wiped off the cobwebs and pumped up the tires. I also had to change my bags and my iPhone mount. My water bottle barely fit. My rear tire needs to be replaced. 
Ryan came out to get me to pump up his tires. 
It is such a different ride. It didn't take too long before I was used to it. I forgot how fast this bike is. 
I rode down BBD to Flatwoods. Trout Creek is over the road. Clay Gulley is also over the path but I rode through. A little too fast as my feet got wet with cold water. 
I saw a little person riding a bike. I saw a guy in one of those silly car bikes. I did two loops then rode to Starbucks for Peppermint hot cocoa. It was good. 
Ride home was good. 
I felt good when I got home but decided to drink some Skratch Recovery. The horchata is OK but I prefer the chocolate. I used the whisk attachment on the stick blender. It got really frothy.

NE wind but it doesn't matter with the bonus rides. I rode to Zephyrhills. SR56 MUP is still closed. Part of the bike lane was blocked with traffic cones and barrels. At least the deceleration lanes are now complete and I don't have to worry about riding in the auto lanes or on the gravel. Windy but I didn't worry about my speed. Wearing old SheBeest shorts. They are too loose but the chamois is still good.
Starbucks. Today is the day they bring back the red cups and seasonal drinks. I ordered Peppermint Hot Cocoa. They have some Christmas merchandise. I got an ornament. I was really hoping they would have ornaments like the holiday cups. They only have three choices, red glitter, pink glitter and a clear Florida ornament.
I wondered why there was such a line but they were giving away a free reusable cup. But I don't think it is reusable at Starbucks because of the pandemic. Oy. |
The ride home was good but noisy. US301 is loud because of traffic. SR56 was loud because of my bike. I really need to take it in.
I tried the Skratch Recovery Mix again. I used my stick blender and it was 100% better. It takes like watery chocolate milk but that is fine.

Very windy. I rode up MPB to SR54. I had to make a u-turn to go west. I should have gone through the barriers as SR54 eastbound is very rough and lacking a shoulder in parts. Westbound was good and there is a bike lane.as I rounded the turn, I saw a car on the side. The woman waved at me. I thought they might needing directions and decided to be nice. It was Amber and Robert. We talked a bit then I continued to Starbucks. The tailwind was amazing. Again I had to make a u-turn and riding against the wind was awful. I am glad I made the longer trip yesterday.
Peppermint White Hot Cocoa and iced tea. I got the Florida ornament today.
Service is slow.
The drink tastes like a melted and hot peppermint stick. Better than I expected.
The ride home was OK. The tailwind never really helped along SR54 because I was on the sidewalk rather than cross the street twice. I rode through Seven Oaks and had a headwind when the rode curved east. The last two miles were tough because it was against the wind along CLR.

Windy as Fuck. Tropical Storm Eta is causing too much wind. And why did I do, ride into the wind along SR56. So slow but I kept going. The ride back was fun. I rode hard enough to keep my heart rate above 140. But my average pace for the ride was still slow. Oh well.
Starbucks. Making my own with White Hot Cocoa and Chestnut Praline Sauce. I hope it is good.
I am glad I didn't wait to get my ornaments. They are mostly gone.
