NE wind but it doesn't matter with the bonus rides. I rode to Zephyrhills. SR56 MUP is still closed. Part of the bike lane was blocked with traffic cones and barrels. At least the deceleration lanes are now complete and I don't have to worry about riding in the auto lanes or on the gravel. Windy but I didn't worry about my speed. Wearing old SheBeest shorts. They are too loose but the chamois is still good.
Starbucks. Today is the day they bring back the red cups and seasonal drinks. I ordered Peppermint Hot Cocoa. They have some Christmas merchandise. I got an ornament. I was really hoping they would have ornaments like the holiday cups. They only have three choices, red glitter, pink glitter and a clear Florida ornament.
I wondered why there was such a line but they were giving away a free reusable cup. But I don't think it is reusable at Starbucks because of the pandemic. Oy. |
The ride home was good but noisy. US301 is loud because of traffic. SR56 was loud because of my bike. I really need to take it in.
I tried the Skratch Recovery Mix again. I used my stick blender and it was 100% better. It takes like watery chocolate milk but that is fine.

Very windy. I rode up MPB to SR54. I had to make a u-turn to go west. I should have gone through the barriers as SR54 eastbound is very rough and lacking a shoulder in parts. Westbound was good and there is a bike lane.as I rounded the turn, I saw a car on the side. The woman waved at me. I thought they might needing directions and decided to be nice. It was Amber and Robert. We talked a bit then I continued to Starbucks. The tailwind was amazing. Again I had to make a u-turn and riding against the wind was awful. I am glad I made the longer trip yesterday.
Peppermint White Hot Cocoa and iced tea. I got the Florida ornament today.
Service is slow.
The drink tastes like a melted and hot peppermint stick. Better than I expected.
The ride home was OK. The tailwind never really helped along SR54 because I was on the sidewalk rather than cross the street twice. I rode through Seven Oaks and had a headwind when the rode curved east. The last two miles were tough because it was against the wind along CLR.

Windy as Fuck. Tropical Storm Eta is causing too much wind. And why did I do, ride into the wind along SR56. So slow but I kept going. The ride back was fun. I rode hard enough to keep my heart rate above 140. But my average pace for the ride was still slow. Oh well.

East wind and I am out of eastern places to go. I rode up to BBD to SR54 again. Tailwind was nice. My Apple Watch didn't start but I noticed at mile two. Oh well. Average pace on the way there was 12.4 mph.
I rode to the Starbucks at Collier. I remember not liking it last year. Not a long wait this time. The barista was fixing Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa and I asked for a xtra whip and no lid. But then the caramel was too heavy and made it collapse. It was a mess but good.
I should be officially done with the challenge tomorrow and the seasonal flavors arrive next Friday. Time for bonus rides!
The ride back wasn't too bad. It was windy but shorter.

East wind again. Sigh. I rode down BBD and cut through Flatwoods to Morris Bridge. I knew to cut down to the paved road to avoid having to squeeze through the locked gates.
Morris Bridge is awful. I forgot how bad the road is.
Starbucks has moved! What? Was google maps wrong? No. It is across the street and just down the block. I didn't look closely at the map to see it.
I am wearing my older SheBeest shorts. They are losing their elastic and the chamois shifts. Saving up for a pair of Machines For Freedom.
Starbucks app said 9-17 minutes to prep! It was ready when I walked in a few minutes after ordering. White Hot Cocoa with Toffee Nut Syrup and caramel drizzle. Very good.
I took a longer ride back. It was uneventful. My bike is making a lot of noise.
I mixed some Skratch Labs Horchata Recovery Mix. Why is that stuff so hard to blend? I shake like crazy and take a few sips until I nearly choke on a glob of powder. Shake some more and repeat. Does someone make premixed recovery drinks? If it wasn't so helpful, I would skip it all together.

Windier than I expected. I should have gone in the morning. Because of the wind direction, I didn't want to go to the west. I decided to go to the Starbucks on SR54 which is more north. But I headed east against the wind to get in more miles. Normally I would head up MPB to SR54 but there is construction and when I rode it last year, it was not fun. Hopefully I can ride it next fall. I got Salted Caramel again. The his was the best one yet. I am very surprised because this Starbucks tends to be slow and not that good. Maybe it is a different shift as I usually visit Sunday mornings and this is Saturday afternoon. I also got some iced green tea to add to my water bottle even though I don't have a long ride home. I rode back through Seven Oaks. That big building complex is a senior living center. It is rather ugly. The wind back through Meadow Pointe wasn't too bad.

Eastern wind but out of places to ride that way. I rode up Mansfield to Chancey to BBD to SR54. I took the MUP along BBD which is so much better than the shoulder. SR54 was OK. I was starting to hit every light but I snuck through at Lexington Oaks when the driver in the left turn lane was too busy on her phone to even hear the drivers behind her honking. Starbucks on SR54 in Lutz. White Hot Chocolate with Toffee Nut Syrup extra whip and caramel drizzle. It was good. A little hot. I got some iced tea to fill up the water bottler. I crossed back over SR56 and rode west to Oak Grove. I rode south to CLR then east to home. Climbing the overpass is never fun but at least it has a decent shoulder. I was glad I got home before noon.

Windy. A slow ride up SR56 to US301. I rode to Starbucks in Zephyrhills. Only two other people here. I didn't have to wait too long. Hot Cocoa with Toffee Nut Syrup and Caramel drizzle. Pretty good but I burned my tongue. It is not cold enough to enjoy hot cocoa. The ride back was nice with the tailwind. My iPhone ran out of juice and I stopped to plug it in the charger. I got another lower battery warning and I thought it was because the charger hadn't been use in a while so it might not have much juice. But maybe it was a loose cable because my iPhone was charging and lasted the 6 miles until I got home. I tried the Skratch Recovery Mix. I thought I shook it a lot but it was still clumpy. I shocked some more. Nope. I shook it a third time. It was OK and I decided to drink it all but choked on a clump of powder near the end. I am not sure it is worth it. (I felt really good the rest of the day so I think it did its job despite the clumpiness.)

SE wind so I rode down BBD to Flatwoods Park. I have been there before the Pandemic. I rode through Trout Creek and felt my back get soaked. It dried out quick enough. I only did one loop. Lots of riders. I flinched every time I heard "On your left!" I have ridden near anyone in months. I stopped at the new Starbucks at Hunter's Green for Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa. The wait is long. I saw it being made but he didn't call out my name as he set it to wait. By the time I could ask, the whipped cream was melted. I went outside to drink and saw my bike had fallen over. My helmet was on my handlebars. It is probably time to get a new helmet. My chain was also knocked off and bottle cage broke. Coffeeneuring always seems to cost me more money than just the beverages.

Late start. I tried to replace my broken bottle cage but the bottom screw would not come out. It was rusted and WD40 didn't help. Hot and humid. I am glad I filled my bottles with skratch. I rode down BBD to Tampa Palms. My body did not want to ride. I blamed the wind on the way down but it was no longer and excuse riding with the tailwind. I ride to Starbucks in Wesley Chapel. White Chocolate ahoy Cocoa with Toffee Nut Syrup. Good. Rode the long way home. A mile longer but no busy roads to cross. My legs were cramping on the way home.

I didn't have to work so I rode later and longer. I didn't see the sun because of the clouds. I did see assholes running in the bike lane expecting me to move. I was on my first loop on Mansfield and didn't see the guy because I tend to keep my head down in the wind. I heard "Coming through!" and looked up to see the same guy have to jump on the curb to avoid me. He slapped my arm as he went past. It was a light slap because I doubt he could slap any harder but it stung as I was riding 13 mph. "Fuck you! It's a bike lane you asshole!"
I rode two more laps without incident.

Chain slipping like crazy. Stopped at the light to cross. Chain dropped. Robbie was at Flatwoods and saw me. He has a new bike. I rode two loops. It I stayed in a higher gear, I was mostly OK. Could not make it up the little hill. Went to Oliver's to see what it was going to cost me. Randy was there and said I could pay the $70 later. They fixed it and even tried my rear wheel some. Debating if I should go to Starbucks.
I can't seem to get through a Coffeeneuring challenge without having to get something fixed on my bike.
I went to Starbucks for one last Peppermint Hot Cocoa.

Put new iPhone mount on my bike. It is big and clunky and stiff to use. But it works and wasn't expensive.
I saw wild turkeys along Wiregrass Ranch Blvd.
Rode up to SR54 back down to SR56 to @Starbucks. Toasted White Chocolate Cocoa. Tastes burnt. Not good.

Ride home was good with tailwind but my toes were getting cold. Sandals just don't cut it below 60°.

Rode up to Zephyrhills to Starbucks. Windy but not hot. Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa. Very good.
I rode back home via Eiland. They have resurfaced it and it is very nice. There is one spot where there is no shoulder but it didn't last long and there were no cars at that point. It got rough at SR54. They are widening the intersection and the lanes are narrow during construction. I rode down Morris Bridge to SR56. There is no shoulder along Morris Bridge. But traffic was OK. The tailwind was nice and I moved into the big gears.
With the cooler weather, I didn't even go through 2 water bottle even though I made myself drink every three miles. I only had one stop on the way home for a traffic light.
